Why Bacteriostatic Water
Lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptides require reconstitution in an aqueous solvent before use in research protocols. Bacteriostatic water’s benzyl alcohol content inhibits bacterial growth between septum punctures, which sterile water for injection (SWFI) cannot do — SWFI is labeled for single use only. For any research compound studied over multiple days, bacteriostatic water is the standard solvent. The 10mL format is matched to smaller peptide research quantities where a 30mL vial would exceed the 28-day usable window.
